Target prints

Fingerprint Match

Practice fingerprints
  • Every hack picks its target from these 4, in this order. The numbered squares are its 4 correct fragments.
  • The 4 decoys are cut from the same squares of the other prints, so their edges and black corners match. Compare ridge flow, curvature and spacing, not the outline.
  • Grid positions are shuffled every round: recognise the fragment, not its place.
  • Hard chains 2 different prints in one hack, on one timer.

Recognition cue: Two hairpins side by side, sitting on a tall stack of nested chevrons.

  4. Print 01, fragment 4: Big hairpin
    Big hairpin
Correct fragments
Shape
Two loops next to each other: a big one right of centre opening downwards and a smaller one lower left opening down-left, with rings of fingertip arcs over both. The finest, most tightly packed ridges of the four.
Fragments
Very dense ridges. The two hairpin fragments are the giveaway: one tip is narrow and sits in the left third of its tile, the other is a small, tight loop.

Seed E37AEA3D

Recognition cue: The loop whose tip points up and to the left.

  4. Print 02, fragment 4: Up-left hairpin
    Up-left hairpin
Correct fragments
Shape
Opens to the right: ridges come in from the right, turn round a steep hairpin whose tip points up-left, and run back out to the right, wrapped in a wide D. The left third is long, near-vertical ( ridges. The coarsest, most widely spaced ridges of the four.
Fragments
Wide ridge spacing. Near-vertical ridges on the left, diagonals sloping down to the right, and round ∩ arches at the bottom instead of pointed chevrons.

Seed E90F6EFB

Recognition cue: Straight diagonal hatching on the left against curved arcs on the right.

  3. Print 03, fragment 3: Top-right arcs
    Top-right arcs
  4. Print 03, fragment 4: Right-edge arcs
    Right-edge arcs
Correct fragments
Shape
Opens to the lower left: a narrow hairpin with a round tip leaning right sits just above centre. The left and lower half is straight hatching running down-left; the right half is ( arcs that break up near the edge.
Fragments
Straight diagonals that hardly curve on the left fragments, round arcs with a black edge on the right ones. The core fragment shows the hairpin leaning right.

Seed 135191D9

Recognition cue: A U hanging off the right edge, with an F-shaped junction below it.

  1. Print 04, fragment 1: Hairpin
    Hairpin

    Chevrons
  3. Print 04, fragment 3: F junction
    F junction
  4. Print 04, fragment 4: U with island
    U with island
Correct fragments
Shape
Two loops in an S: a hairpin top left opening down-right, and a U on the right edge opening up-left with a small island inside it. Long vertical arcs run down the left side; the lower-left edge is cut back.
Fragments
The right-hand fragments are the tell: the U with its island, and the short horizontal strokes meeting in < junctions that read as an F.

Read patterns as digits

Example pattern: one lit dot per column, read as 25112501020304050612345251125
Remember it as251125
  1. Spot the target

Several patterns flash one after another. The target flashes 3 times, mixed in among the others, and always with its own tone; every other pattern flashes once. The flashes all look the same, so listen.

  2. Read each column as a digit

Go left to right, one digit per column: 1 is the top row, 5 is the bottom row. That gives 6 digits.

  3. Chunk it

Split the digits in two, like a phone number: 251 125. Say the chunks to yourself while the flashes are still playing, then ignore everything that is not the target.

  4. Enter it

↑ ↓ pick the dot in the current column, Enter confirms it and moves right, Backspace goes back one column. The answer is checked when you confirm the last column.

  5. Drop the helper

H shows the row numbers while you learn. Switch them off once reading rows is automatic.
